BuurtgeWoel (English)

With a mixture of long-term inhabitants, young newcomers, students and quite a number of different nationalities, our neighbourhood took a new start. And how better to start than with a party?
This is how BuurtgeWoel (meaning something like ‘Neighbourhood rumble’) came into being. Neighbours and friends co-operating to intensify the community feeling and – as the name expresses – to create a pleasant rumble in our neighbourhood.
All year long we organise a number of activities, always in the Hazelaarstraat.
Starting the year with a reception and good newyear resolutions, we proceed into spring with a flower market to decorate our streets. On the last Sunday of august we hold our summerparty. A spot of food and a drink, enticing music, a jumping castle for the children … High spirits guaranteed!

… and some extra’s!
You can take it for granted that the Brugse Poort is a lively community. Just think about the Bevrijdingslaan streetfair, and the numerous local initiatives not unlike BuurtgeWoel, while the ‘De Vieze Gasten’ provide the necessary local colour.
Local schools, the municipal community workers, the neighbourhood health centre, a secondhand and recycling shop, the sports-shed, the swimming pool and the library … they all make a point of actively approaching all inhabitants.
In short: the whole neighbourhood is alive and kicking. And those who want a temporary escape from the city hustle and bustle are wellcome to a stroll in the nearby Bourgoyen bird and nature sanctuary.
